First Week
We had a great first week!! A few reminders :) Please have students bring a spiral notebook to my class. So far students should have 3 journal responses. I have checked Journals 1 & 2 as a homework grade. Also, they should be reading a novel at home every night. If you have a reluctant reader, I can help your child find something that may interest them. Next week I will send home a letter to parents about my class and expectations. I know parents are receiving a lot of paperwork and wanted to wait. Unfortunately, I was having problems with this web page and was unable to post homework. Hopefully, that will not be a problem anymore. Enjoy your much needed weekend! See you on Tuesday!

We are working on theme this week. Students have read two poems that discuss bullying. So far, they were required to write two journal responses about these topics. Please make sure they have responded and they have it in their Language Arts Notebook. I will do a notebook check this week and I will be looking for the two journal responses.

Students need to update their Reader's Notebook. How many novels have they read so far? How many novels from each genre? What do they need to read for the rest of the year? Are they recording page numbers in the book? Author? Title? Date Completed? Was the novel easy? Just right? Challenging?
Students also need to look over Grammar. Do they know their helping verbs, being verbs, pronouns, nouns, articles and action verbs? Can they tell you what an adjective is? Interrogative Sentence?

Students have a questionnaire that they are supposed to fill out that pertains to their family's culture and heritage. The questions are not limited to these....it is just a guideline. They also have a family tree to work on. This is due Friday. They may be creative and bring in artifacts, visuals, or recordings.

Students must organize Reader's Notebook.
